Building
Video-Maker
A workbench for rough cuts, subtitles, and visual layouts, with drafts for further editing in Jianying (剪映).
Personal Use · Continuous Iteration
Turn recorded footage into a draft I can keep editing
After recording come many small tasks: removing unwanted clips, correcting subtitles, placing visual material, and bringing everything onto one timeline. This local workbench brings those steps together so more time can go into the content and the person presenting it.
What this workbench does
- Organize the footage and check the subtitles: import a Recorder handoff or a video without subtitles, trim, split, and remove sections, then transcribe the retained audio locally. Listen back to correct, split, or merge subtitles.
- Arrange visuals, subtitles, and the presenter together: place material against one shared playback clock and preview the three tracks. Adjust framing, backgrounds, text, and layout, and save reusable settings as a template.
- Create a draft for further editing in Jianying (剪映): export a separate draft with visual material, presenter footage, original audio, and subtitles that remain editable, then check and finish it in Jianying.
Production workspace
Arrange all three tracks on one timeline, adjust which parts of a clip to keep, and watch the composition as it plays.
Layout settings and live preview
Set the position and size of visual material with a live canvas preview, or reuse a saved layout template.
Choose a scene image or a solid color for the presenter’s background, and preview how it works with the visual material.
The trade-offs behind this build
Subtitles follow what was actually said; the script is a reference for correcting errors. Editing keeps the original footage, and transcription results stay separate from manual corrections. AI and automation handle repeated work while I make the choices and final checks. Day-to-day transcription, visual processing, and export run locally.
How the two workbenches connect
Video-Maker handles what comes after recording. It receives an explicit Recorder handoff or a manually imported video without subtitles. The two projects connect through files, and the production workbench doesn’t modify the original recording project.
Current progress
Import, three-track previews, rough cuts, subtitle correction, layout settings, and draft output are implemented for my own workflow. The current draft’s fonts, rounded corners, and final appearance in my local Jianying installation still need checking. The workbench isn’t publicly available.
